Dr Richard Green is Honorary Professor of Neuropharmacology at Nottingham University. Following his PhD (London) he spent two years at NIMH, Washington DC then joining David Grahame-Smith at the MRC Clinical Pharmacology Unit in Oxford, undertaking psychopharmacology research, becoming Assistant Director in 1981. In 1986 he was appointed Director of the Astra Neuroscience Research Unit in London also becoming British Pharmacological Society (BPS) Meetings Secretary in 1986 and General Secretary in 1989. In 1996 he was appointed Director, Global Discovery CNS & Pain Control for Astra. Retiring from AstraZeneca in 2007 he has continued research in Nottingham. He is a former president and honorary member of the International Society for Serotonin Research, a former Trustee of the BPS and currently chair of the Governance Panel of the British Association for Psychopharmacology (BAP). He has published around 320 papers and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the BAP in 2010.
