COVID-19 safety at our events

Last updated: January 2023

The safety of our members, delegates and staff is at the forefront of our event planning.

We will continue to monitor and follow the UK government’s guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19), in addition to any venue-specific policies, to provide peace of mind to those attending. We encourage all delegates to also check the latest UK government guidance and venue policies before attending our events.

If you are travelling to the UK from abroad, we also advise checking the guidance from your country of departure and the UK government’s guidance on entering the UK.

We will continue to carry out extensive risk assessments, including a specific COVID-19 assessment, prior to our events and will be making the assessments available to all attendees on the event websites for your information and peace of mind. Due to the ever-changing landscape of the risk of COVID-19, and the possibility that government guidelines may change, we will review our risk assessment in the final planning stages for any event.

If you are displaying COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive test result, follow NHS guidance on what to do if you have symptoms in the UK.

For meetings taking place in-person, we request that all attendees comply with the following:

  • You should not attend an event if you have or believe you have COVID-19, or any other serious infectious disease.
  • Please feel free to wear face masks anywhere at the event if you wish to do so.
  • The British Pharmacological Society strongly supports the vaccination programme and encourages everyone to take up the vaccine and any boosters offered, if they are able to do so.

If you find yourself unable to attend a meeting that you have paid a registration fee for due to COVID, you may request a discretionary refund, upon providing evidence of a positive COVID-19 test.

We cannot reimburse travel, accommodation or other costs related to the event. Please speak directly to your providers and check you have adequate travel insurance policies in place.

If an event has to be cancelled or rescheduled we will contact you as soon as possible to notify you of the change. You will be offered an alternative or a full refund.

If you have any questions about any of the above, or would like to talk this through with us, please do get in touch at meetings@bps.ac.uk or +44 (0) 20 7239 0183.
