John Traynor is the Edward F Domino Research Professor and Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Michigan Medical School. He teaches pharmacology to medical and dental as well as pharmacology students and has served as chair of the graduate program in pharmacology and Director of University’s Substance Abuse Research Center. He has been President of the International Narcotics Conference and is Chair of the Neuropharmacology Division of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. Dr. Traynor has a BSc in Pharmacy and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Aston University and did postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Gottingen, Germany. Prior to joining the faculty at Michigan he was at Loughborough University. His research on the molecular and behavioral pharmacology of opioids has received continuing funding from the National institute on Drug Abuse of the National institutes of Health, USA.
