BPS Travel Bursary

About the bursary

The BPS Travel Bursary supports members attending various BPS meetings throughout the year, including our annual meeting.

Terms and conditions

  • Applicants must have submitted an abstract for the meeting.
  • Awards will only be offered to the named presenter of an accepted abstract.
  • Only available to existing BPS members - priority will be given to those who have been members for at least one year. Given the demand for support to attend the annual meeting, it is unlikely that applicants who have been members for less than one year will be offered an award.
  • Affiliate Members are not eligible to apply for travel bursaries.
  • Applicants should ensure their anticipated costs are in line with the Expenses Policy.
  • The Society aims to cover recipients' early bird registration, and:
    • up to 50% of travel and accommodation costs for Full Members and Fellows
    • up to 75% for Undergraduates and Early Career Members.
  • Awards will be based on the number of applications, the allocated budget and the Society’s assessment of the most economical mode of travel and a reasonable standard of accommodation.
  • The length of the meeting will determine the maximum number of hotel nights to be reimbursed. E.g. for a two-day meeting, the cost of a maximum of two nights will be awarded.
  • Other costs, such as poster printing, visas and subsistence will not be reimbursed.
  • The maximum award per meeting as well as per year for an individual is £750.
  • Awards are non-transferable.

Receiving payment

To receive payment, a bursary claim form must be submitted within four weeks of the closing date of the meeting, along with receipts, the email confirming the bursary, and a certificate of attendance.

The Society will only make payments to a bank account in the applicant’s name, unless otherwise agreed with the Finance Team.
