Gary Willars completed a PhD at the University of Aston and after several positions settled at the University of Leicester where he is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. His early research was in diabetes and diabetic neuropathy, followed by a sustained focus on the molecular pharmacology of G-protein-coupled receptors, particularly their signalling and regulation. He has been a member of the BPS since 1995 and was awarded the Society’s Bill Bowman Travelling Lectureship in 2000. He has contributed to the Society in a number of ways including as a member of the Meetings Committee and as co-organiser of the BPS Focused Meetings on Cell Signalling. Currently he is the Programme Director for a number of undergraduate degrees and has SFHEA recognition.
