Since 1991, Marco Aurélio Martins has been chief of the Laboratory of Inflammation of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Brazilian Ministry of Health. President elected of the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (2021-2023). After graduation in Biological Sciences in 1981, a teaching position in pharmacology department of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) from 1986-1987, leading to Master’s degree and doctoral thesis at UERJ and Fiocruz, respectively. Research position at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacodynamics in Fiocruz. As a postdoctoral fellow at the WHRI and Imperial College, UK, developed studies on the biological role of annexin-1 in Perretti’s team, and eotaxin-1 in Tim Williams’ group. Work on biomedical research on drug discovery at the pre-clinical level, with emphasis on new candidates for the treatment of inflammatory lung disease. Section Editor of Pharmacology, Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2005-currently. Review Editor for Experimental Pharmacology and Drug Discovery, Frontiers in Pharmacology, 2011-currently.
