I have been Director of Medical Science Policy at the Academy of Medical Sciences since 2009, after starting my science policy career at the Royal Society. The Academy’s mission is to help create an open and progressive research sector to improve the health of people everywhere. The work of my team supports UK biomedical and health research to strengthen its global competitiveness; influences policy and practice to improve the lives of patients, the public and communities; and has partnerships across the world to impact on global health. Fellows of the British Pharmacological Society have contributed to some of our most impactful work. I was delighted to be the Trustee for Policy impact for the British Pharmacological Society between 2018 & 2023. I have been the Trustee for Research for Crohn’s and Colitis since November 2023. Many years ago, I received a PhD in Ecology from Imperial College London and a degree in Applied Biology from Cardiff University.
