JoAnn Trejo, PhD, MBA is Professor of Pharmacology at the University of California (UC) San Diego. She received a BS degree from UC Davis in 1986, earned a PhD in physiology and pharmacology from UC San Diego in 1992, and MBA from UC San Diego 2015. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at UC San Francisco under the mentorship of Shaun Coughlin, MD, PhD. In 2008, she joined the faculty in the UC San Diego School Medicine, Department of Pharmacology, where she quickly rose through the ranks. Dr. Trejo is a basic science researcher with expertise in cell signaling. She is best known for her discoveries of how cellular responses are regulated by G protein-coupled receptors in the context of vascular inflammation and cancer and has published extensively. She is a highly accomplished and recognized leader and received numerous honors and awards including the American Heart Established Investigator Award. She was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, American Society for Cell Biology Fellow and 100 Inspiring Hispanic / Latinx Scientists.
