Mene is responsible for BioPharmaceuticals R&D across CVRM, Respiratory & Immunology, Vaccines & Immune Therapies and Neuroscience. Since joining AstraZeneca in 2010, he has led the transformation of R&D productivity leading to a greater than five-fold improvement in success rates from GLP tox to launch. Mene holds Honorary Doctorates from Glasgow University and Imperial College, is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Society of Biology and Clare Hall, Cambridge University and is a Visiting Professor of The Wolfson Centre, Kings College, London. He co-chairs the UK Life Sciences Council Expert Group on Innovation, Clinical Research and Data and is a member of the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy Implementation Board and the Life Sciences Vision Advisory Group. He sits on the Boards of The Francis Crick Institute, The Judge Business School, Cambridge University and Dizal Pharma. In 2019, Mene was awarded a knighthood from The Queen, the Prix Galien Medal, Greece and Pharmaceutical Executive of the Year by Scrip. He has overseen the creation of AstraZeneca’s new Global R&D Centre in Cambridge and all the companies COVID-19 diagnostic and therapeutic efforts.
