Miles is Director of the Research and Development Institute, where his research portfolio includes: immunity to Ebola virus, host-pathogen interactions, vaccine development, and molecular epidemiology to infectious disease outbreaks. His current focus is the development of in vivo models to assess the safety & efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics. Miles gained his PhD in HIV research from Manchester University & continued his studies on recombinant vaccines at the National Institutes of Health, USA. Subsequently, Miles joined Oxford Biomedica (OBM) as VP Immunotherapy. At OBM he invented the therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate, TroVax and led the pre-clinical and Phase II development programme. Miles has authored >150 publications, has >15 granted patents and serves on several scientific advisory boards including the Animal and Plant Health Agency, Defence Science & Technology Laboratories and the World Health Organisation R&D Road Map for Priority Pathogens. Miles has a joint appointment within the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford and is Hon Prof of Vaccinology at the University of Southampton.
