Professor Emma Baker

Professor Emma Baker is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and honorary consultant at St George’s, University of London. She is currently the co-director of the UK’s first BSc in Clinical Pharmacology, which she developed in collaboration with colleagues from academia, industry and the NHS. This undergraduate degree aims to develop graduates ready for work or further study in drug development and research in response to the UK skills gap in Clinical Pharmacology. Emma was the Clinical Vice President of the British Pharmacological Society from 2017-2021. In this role she championed all aspects of clinical pharmacology, particularly in the NHS and worked to improve recruitment, training, and progression of doctors in the specialty. From 2018-2022 she was Training Programme Director for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics in London, implementing a monthly training programme that became the blueprint for the current national online programme for Clinical Pharmacology trainees. Emma has served 2 terms as trustee for the BPS and was an executive editor for the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology for 10 years. She is an author of 2 leading prescribing textbooks and has an extensive track record of research, originally in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, but more recently in Polypharmacy and Multimorbidity.
