Since June 2012 Kate Baillie has been Chief Executive of the Biochemical Society and Managing Director of the Society’s wholly-owned trading subsidiary, Portland Press Limited. The Biochemical Society is the largest single discipline society in the sector, with over 7,000 members. The Group turnover is £5m per annum and the Society has around 40 employees. Prior to this, Kate was Chief Executive of the British Pharmacological Society from 2007-2012, Executive Director of the International and European Associations for the Study of Obesity 1999-2007, Associate Director of the Centre for Central and Eastern Europe and Foundation for Entrepreneurial Management at London Business School 1996-1999, Chief Executive of the British Society for Rheumatology 1988-1996 and a District Management Trainee at City and Hackney Health Authority from 1986-1988.Kate graduated in 1986 with a first degree in Russian and Soviet Studies, and also holds a MA in Philosophy and Healthcare (Medical Ethics) and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Kate is also a non- Executive Director of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
