My research uses complementary models (and novel imaging techniques) to investigate arterial remodelling in health and disease. My PhD addressed the therapeutic potential of direct thrombin inhibition (r-hirudin) for prevention of restenosis. My post-doctoral research centred on the influence of glucocorticoids on arterial remodelling: assessing the potential for pharmacological inhibition of endogenous glucocorticoid generation as an anti-atherosclerotic and pro-angiogenic intervention. In addition, I have studied the influence of endothelin B receptors on arterial function and remodelling. More recently, my work has extended to address the role (and therapeutic potential) of lncRNAs and miRNAs in the remodelling associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension and with vascular and valvular calcification.
