Edith Sim (BSc,Edinb;DPhil;Oxon) joined Pharmacology in Oxford in 1983 (Wellcome Senior Lecturer), showing hydalazine inhibition of complement component C4 was important in drug-induced lupus. This led to investigating the pharmacogenetics of arylamine N-acetyltransferases (NATs). She established the reaction mechanism of NATs, identified humanNAT1 as a breast cancer marker and showed NAT in mycobacteria, with related proteins, are anti-tubercular targets. She received the Vane Medal in 2012. At Oxford she was Head of Pharmacology (2000-2005), Director of Training (20005-2010) and was Dean of Science Engineering and Computing at Kingston University (2010-2014). Currently she is an Emeritus Professor (Oxford; Kingston), a Senior Research Fellow (St Peter’s, Oxford) and a Trustee of the Daphne Jackson Trust. She supervised over 40 graduate students, served on national and international boards and has published over 200 papers, reviews and books. Married to scientist Bob Sim, she is a mother and grandmother.
