David Kendall was born and brought up in Liverpool, graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Nottingham and completed a PhD in Neuropharmacology at the Liverpool School of Pharmacy. After a period in the pharmaceutical industry with Smith and Nephew, he did postdoctoral research in the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and then as a SERC Travelling Fellow in the University of Leicester with Prof. Stefan Nahorski. He then spent 30 years as an academic pharmacologist at the University of Nottingham Medical School with a period as Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences. His research has centred around the pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors with a particular interest in antidepressant drugs and cannabinoids. He left academia in 2015 to pursue drug development projects with PharmNovo of which he was a founder and is currently their Chief Scientific Officer. He has an unfortunate addiction to Everton FC.
