Dr Collingridge is the Ernest B and Leonard B Smith Chair of the Department of Physiology, University of Toronto and a Senior Investigator at the LTRI. His research focuses on the hippocampus, a brain region that is critical for learning and memory. He studies the roles of proteins in normal hippocampal physiology and how alterations contribute to brain dysfunction. His work is directly relevant to understanding the underlying causes of a wide range of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and psychiatric conditions such as depression, schizophrenia and autism. He is a co-recipient of the 2016 Brain Prize, the World’s largest prize for neuroscience for his work on Synaptic Plasticity and Memory.
