Dr Caroline Copeland is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology & Toxicology at King’s College London (KCL) and Director of the National Programme on Substance Use Mortality (NPSUM). Caroline leads a research group at KCL whose broad collective aim is to improve the healthcare strategy for people who use drugs. This is achieved by the signal detection of emerging substances on the illicit drug market, the evaluation of national and international drug policy, and by identifying novel public health interventions for people who use drugs. Caroline sits on the UK Government’s independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) Sub-Committee, the Welsh National Implementation Board for Drug Poisoning Prevention (NIBDPP), and is an NPS Expert for the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA). Caroline was the recipient of the BPS Bill Bowman Prize Fellowship for outstanding research by an early-career pharmacologist in 2018.
