David MacEwan studied Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow then PhD studies at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Edinburgh. After postdoctoral studies at Syntex Research (Roche Bioscience) and at Stanford University departments of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, he returned to the University of Glasgow as Postdoc. In 1996 David was appointed Lecturer in Pharmacology at the University of Aberdeen, being promoted to Senior Lecturer, then Reader. He moved to the University of East Anglia as Chair in Pharmaceutical Cell Biology and Head of Pharmacology. In 2013, he joined the Department of Molecular & Clinical Pharmacology as Chair in Molecular Pharmacology, and since 2015 is the Head of Department.He serves as Cancer Senior Editor for the BJP and as Senior Editor/Editor of several other journals including Biochemical Pharmacology, American Journal of Cancer Research, and Molecular Cellular Oncology. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB) and FBPhS.
