Dr Andrew Webb is Clinical Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and Honorary Consultant Physician at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical/research interests include cardiovascular pharmacology/physiology, e.g. blood pressure. He employs pharmacological principles when supervising trainees and students in human experimental medicine studies, e.g. exploring the (dietary) nitrate (e.g. beetroot juice)-nitrite-nitric oxide pathway: kinetic regulation; enzyme/food interactions; dynamic responses; new and ‘paradoxical’ mechanisms in cardiovascular function in hypertension, type 2 diabetes and Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF). As medical school Lead for ‘Long Term Conditions’ and ‘theme lead’ for pharmacology and prescribing, he contributes to curriculum development/course delivery, teaching and assessment; also question-writing for the Prescribing Skills Assessment. He is Deputy Editor in Chief of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (2020-); previously Senior (European) Editor 2015-2020; Executive Editor 2011-15.
