Patrícia Silva graduated in Biological Sciences at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1982), and obtained her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (1991), (Brazil). She completed her postdoctoral training at the Imperial College (London) (1996 - 1998), under supervision of Professor Timothy Williams. She is currently senior researcher in Public Health at the Laboratory of Inflammation, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. She is research fellow and member of meeting committees of Brazilian scientific institutions, also including the board of the Brazilian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (2015 - 2020). She is editor/ reviewer of several scientific journals and her main research focus is on the inflammatory component involved in chronic pulmonary dysfunctions, both immunological and non-immunological, including asthma, COPD and occupational diseases such as pneumoconiosis, with a view to the identification of new therapeutic alternatives aiming the effective control of such diseases.
