Dr Sam Groom is a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Manchester. Sam obtained his MPharmacol at the University of Bath, which included an industrial placement at Heptares Therapeutics. In 2017, he was awarded an A.J Clark studentship from the British Pharmacological Society to undertake his PhD between the Universities of Bath and Bristol under the supervision of Dr Chris Bailey and Dr Eamonn Kelly. His PhD research focussed on the functional consequences of biased signalling at neuronal G protein-coupled receptors. After being awarded his PhD in 2021, Sam took up a postdoctoral position at the University of Bath, characterising new tools for the acute spatiotemporal control of GPCRs in vivo. In 2022, he moved to the University of Manchester and now studies the neurobiological mechanisms that elicit weight loss with peripheral peptide agonists (working with Professor Simon Luckman in collaboration with Novo Nordisk). Sam also contributed to work of the British Pharmacological Society through serving on the Early Career Pharmacologists Advisory Group (2017-2020) and the Meetings Committee (2020-present).
