In 2000 Stephen Getting obtained his PhD in Immunopharmacology from the William Harvey Research Institute London. Investigating the role of Annexin and Melanocortin peptides in arthritis under the guidance of Professors Mauro Perretti and Rod Flower FRS. Thereafter, there was a period of postdoctoral training at the William Harvey Research Institute, Monash Medical School Australia, and a fellowship at Seconda Universita delgi Studi di Napoli. In 2005 he moved to Imperial College, to evaluate the effect of HDAC2 inhibitors in steroid insensitive asthma before moving to The University of Westminster in 2006 as Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology. In 2017, he was promoted to Principal Lecturer, and is Course Leader for BSc (Hons) Pharmacology and Physiology with a remit as an educator, researcher and promoting careers in Pharmacology for students. Recent research has investigated the effects of Melanocortin peptides in Osteoarthritis, FPR2 agonists in Alzheimer’s disease, and targeting Voltage-Gated Potassium Channel, Kv1.5, in the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. He has been recognized for his work by the Inflammation Research Association and the World Congress on Inflammation.
