Robert Widdop obtained his PhD (1986) at Monash University (Australia) and has held research positions in Clinical Pharmacology University of Melbourne and the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Nottingham Medical School, UK. He returned to Monash University and held three separate Research Fellowships of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) before being appointed as a Teaching and Research academic in the Department of Pharmacology, Monash University (2001) and then as Head (since 2011). He established the Integrative Cardiovascular Pharmacology Group and is on the executive of the new Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University, aligned with the Cardiovascular Disease Program. As a cardiovascular pharmacologist, much of his NHMRC-funded research has focused on the pathophysiology of angiotensin peptides in cardiovascular disease. He has sat on various Editorial Boards including British Journal of Pharmacology (1998-2001) and research funding committees, and is committed to mentoring early career researchers.
