Richard (Rick) Schulz is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Pharmacology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. There he is a member of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, the Women and Children's Health Research Institute, and the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta. Rick is particularly interested in the impact of oxidative stress and matrixmetalloproteinases (MMPs) in the heart and vasculature, in both health and disease. Rick’s translational research program is focused on therapies of ischemic heart disease, heart failure, septic shock and Chagas disease, through reducing the impact of oxidative stress and MMP activity.
