Nick gained his PhD in immunopathology from Southampton University in 1982 where he studied the link between heart disease and dietary proteins. He moved to the University of Bath where he first became interested in corticosteroids in the treatment of arthritis. He set up a lab in London at Barts Medical School in 1992 and is currently Professor of Pharmacology & Medical Education at Barts & the London Queen Mary University of London. He is also an anglican priest and chaplain to the Medical School. Nick’s research interests include the mechanism of action of glucocorticoids in inflammatory diseases, the ethics of human embryo research and the development of pharmacology teaching in the undergraduate medical curriculum.
