After obtaining his medical degree in Turkey in 1993, Selim completed his PhD in pharmacology at Wellcome Research Laboratories and University College London in 1997 under the supervision of Prof Sir Salvador Moncada. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher, then as a team leader at UCL until 2004 when he joined GlaxoSmithKline. At GSK, he was involved in early pre-clinical and clinical research with a focus on translational medicine. He returned to UCL in 2009, then worked at Cranfield University as a Reader in Translational Medicine before joining Anglia Ruskin University in April 2015. He is currently the Director of Research at Faculty of Medical Science at Anglia Ruskin University. He serves as an expert in the reviewer boards of several journals, funding bodies and consultancy companies. He is one of the associate editors of The Journal of Sexual Medicine. His current research interests are phenotypic screening assays and fibrosis.
