Meritxell Canals, PhD, is Professor of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology and Deputy Director of the COMPARE unit at the University of Nottingham. Meri obtained her BSc and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona, Spain. Following completion of post-doctoral positions at the University of Glasgow and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, she established her research group at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) in Melbourne. In 2018, Meri was appointed to her current position at the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on the molecular basis of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signal transduction and its regulation by different effector complexes. In particular, her research group uses multidisciplinary approaches to study receptors involved in pain transmission and regulation. Her work as been supported by the NHMRC Australia, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the BBSRC and the Schaefer Research Scholarship by the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University.
