Schachter Award

The Schachter Award provides postgraduate students with an opportunity to visit an international laboratory to learn a new technique. Winners will receive up to £1,850 to cover the costs of travel, accommodation and subsistence.


Applications will be assessed on the quality of the project, the feasibility to deliver the outcomes within the timeframe, and the potential to enhance the student’s knowledge, skills and broader experience.


  • The student must be a postgraduate Early Career Member, and is expected to have been a member for at least two years
  • The supervisor must be an Early Career Member, Fellow or Full Member.

Application and deadline

Students can apply directly for the award. There are two deadlines: 31 January or 30 June. Guidance on the documentation required is provided in the application form below.
