With our annual Pharmacology meeting now only a matter of weeks away, our team are busily adding the finishing touches to ensure everyone attending has a seamless experience on our digital platform. If you haven’t already, there is still time to register and you can plan out your time at the meeting by viewing our programme.

Given we have spent so much time apart over the last year and a half, it’s good news that we won’t have to wait long for an opportunity to get together. We are holding a special event on Wednesday 1 December at the Royal College of Physicians in London, to celebrate 90 years since the Society’s foundation.

We’re thrilled to have esteemed speakers joining us at the event to take us through the huge developments in pharmacology over the last 90 years. Professor Julia Buckingham CBE will take us on a journey from drug classification to personalised medicine, and Professor Carlo Patrono will share how aspirin research has changed over the last 50 years. The event will also include our annual President’s Lecture – delivered this year by Dr Robert Langer. We’ll also honour two innovators in drug discovery and pharmacology, Sir Colin Dollery and Sir Alasdair Breckenridge, both dear Society members who sadly passed away in recent years.

As all COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted in the UK, we are thinking hard about our approach to returning to face to face meetings. We are so excited to have the chance to welcome you to our in-person event and we want to assure you that we are taking the safety of our in-person attendees extremely seriously. We will be following government guidelines, carrying out extensive risk assessments, maintaining social distancing where possible, and encouraging the use of masks indoors. Read our COVID-19 safety page for more information about how we plan to keep you safe.

We understand that people have different levels of comfort with the lifted restrictions and there may be other barriers to in-person attendance, so we are delighted to offer a virtual attendance option for our 90th anniversary celebration, to make our prestigious event available to more people.

We are also keeping a close eye on case numbers and adjustments to government guidelines, and we will keep our approach flexible to the changing circumstances – keeping your safety our top priority and ensuring that we communicate any changes to you quickly.

We welcome feedback on our approaches, and please do get in touch if you’d like to share your thoughts. I hope to see and speak to many of you soon.
