A J Clark Studentships

Alfred Joseph Clark (1885 - 1941)

Background

The AJ Clark Studentship enables young scientists to carry out research in pharmacology leading to the degree of PhD in recognised departments in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.

The prize

The starting stipends, as from 1 October 2016, are:

  • Year 1 - £18,527 in London and £16,364 elsewhere.
  • Year 2 - £19,489 in London and £17,339 elsewhere.
  • And, year 3 - £20,432 in London and £18,294 elsewhere.

In addition, free postgraduate membership of the British Pharmacological Society is provided for the duration of the Studentship.

The contribution to research costs is £10,000 per year, and students can claim up to £1,000 per year to support their attendance at non-Society meetings. Fees will be paid at the rate applicable to EU students.

Eligibility

Candidates should have degrees in pharmacology or related disciplines and be intending to follow a career in pharmacology. Supervisors must have been members of the Society for at least three years.

Criteria

The winners will be selected on the basis of the applications and interviews with short-listed candidates. We expect to see evidence that the student has been involved with the preparation of the project proposal. The primary selection criterion is the quality of the student, but the quality and suitability of the project and the likely quality of the supervision and facilities available will also be taken into account.

Deadline

31 October 2016.
