Lilly Prize

Background

This prize was established in 1975 and is awarded for longstanding leadership in clinical pharmacology. 

The prize

The winner will receive £2,000 and will deliver a lecture at the annual meeting of the Society. Winners are also be invited to produce a manuscript for the British Journal of Pharmacology, British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology or Pharmacology Research & Perspectives, subject to the normal editorial process.

Criteria

The Committee will consider the following (this list is indicative not exhaustive therefore other achievements will be taken into consideration):

  • Excellence in research:
    • Significant contribution to the scientific field
    • Impact on public policy and practice
    • Research legacy i.e. potential future impact of research
    • Citation metrics such as H-index will be considered
  • External awards and positions held:
    • Positions on public bodies, and initiatives led and implemented by the nominee 
    • Other leadership positions including within institutions
    • Prizes, honours and awards 
  • Excellence in education and training:
    • Leadership in the practice and/or theory of education
    • Leadership in training of postgraduates, research staff or specialty trainees 

Eligibility

  • Self-nomination or nominations by members only.
  • Candidates will be peak career/well established professors, and will ordinarily be expected to have been a member for at least 2 years.
  • There are no restrictions on  nationality, place of residence or work of nominees
