This is a joint conference between the British Pharmacological Society and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

Objective

The challenge to achieve safe prescribing is of huge importance to healthcare. We are now in an era of exponential advances in technology and molecular medicine which will directly impact on improving prescribing. This programme on the future of safe prescribing is designed to address topics directly relevant to safe prescribing now and in the future. This meeting will have wide appeal to independent prescribers from all backgrounds (including medical, pharmacy and nursing). Topics for the programme will include, “cost-effective prescribing”, “managing polypharmacy”, “precision prescribing” “electronic prescribing” and “maintaining prescribing competence”.

Aims

To understand to current state-of-the-art in prescribing from efforts to improving prescribing skills and their outcome to polypharmacy.
Appreciate the role of big data and precision medicine in safe prescribing.
Understand the role of regulatory agencies on prescribing practices.
To discuss innovations in electronic prescribing.
Understand the role of HTA in balancing innovation and affordability in the era of precision medicine.
Provide an overview of the history of modern therapeutics as through the media of UK Pharmaceutical advertising.
To provide an overview of European drug regulation in the post-Brexit era

Bursaries

Bursary submission site is now closed.

Member bursaries

Bursaries are available to eligible members who are attending and presenting their work at the meeting. Eligible members are generally expected to have been a member of the Society for at least one year and must have submitted an abstract and be presenting in the poster sessions at the meeting.

The maximum amount for individual bursaries and will usually be restricted to up to 75% of the aggregate cost of accommodation and travel for students and 50% for non-students. The maximum award is £750. Food and beverage costs and travel incidentals will not be reimbursed. Costs will be based on the Society’s assessment of the most economical mode of travel and a reasonable standard of accommodation.

Care support bursaries

Care support bursaries are also available to members who have caring responsibilities and would benefit from financial support towards caring costs. For further information, please click here.

Travel information

The nearest DART station is Pearse Street Station, about a 10-minute walk away. The closest Luas is Dawson Street on the green line, which is about a 3 minute walk away.

Many Dublin bus routes will bring you very close to RCPI. Nearby stops include Nassau Street, College Green, Dame Street, Kildare Street and St Stephen’s Green. Please see www.dublinbus.ie for route details.

Setanta car park is on Setanta Place, which is off South Frederick Street, Dublin 2. Dawson Street car park is located off Kildare Street on Schoolhouse Lane. There is very limited on-street parking on South Frederick Street. There is no parking on Kildare Street.
