Response to HEFCE survey on internationalisation of REF

In April 2014, then Minister of State for Universities and Science, David Willetts, wrote to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) asking for a view on the proposal from Professor Sir David Eastwood (former HEFCE Chief Executive) that the REF could feasibly be expanded internationally (to English-speaking nations).

The proposal envisions that a single international exercise could be developed collaboratively and conducted periodically. HEFCE sought input on the potential benefits and challenges; the Society responded to note a number of concerns around this proposal.
