Response to NICE’s consultation on the scope of an update to the low back pain guidelines

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has consulted on the scope (i.e. what aspects of care the guideline will cover and to whom it will apply) of the clinical practice guideline on Low Back Pain (update) for use in the NHS in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Society responded to highlight a need for assessment of analgesics for long term treatment, the lack of robust evidence of efficacy of acupuncture or chiropractic in management of back pain and the need for a clinical pharmacologist on the Guideline Development Group.
