Student events and lectures sponsorship

While you are studying, organising an event is a fantastic way to develop skills like teamworking and budget management. It also gives you the chance to explore topics in more depth and to share ideas. We can support you by sponsoring online or in person events organised by student societies by paying up to £250 to help with running costs.

You can apply for sponsorship at any time of year, but please give at least eight weeks’ notice before an event, so that your proposal can be properly considered. If you apply for sponsorship less than eight weeks before the date of your event, we might not be able to consider your application.

This fund is administered by the Early Career Pharmacologists Advisory Group. You can find out more about what they do, and the opportunities available for our early career members here.

Who can apply?

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate societies and groups, preferably related to pharmacology, but groups with interests in the wider biomedical and life sciences are also welcome
  • The organiser must be a registered member of the British Pharmacological Society (membership is free for Undergraduates and only £30 for Postgraduates. You can register here.)

What is available?

  • Up to £250 to help with the costs of organising and running an event, which can include travel/accommodation expenses for a speaker.

How to apply

  • Explain how the funding will contribute to your event

More information

  • We encourage students to choose their own speakers, but they may take the advice of a more senior pharmacologist if needed.
  • We would expect the talk to be well-publicised to the relevant audience, including (if applicable) those at other nearby universities.
  •  Details of when and where the event is happening should be given to the British Pharmacological Society in advance so that it can be shared with our wider community
  • We can give you information to help acknowledge our sponsorship during the event. For example, we can help with a short opening presentation about the Society or provide leaflets about becoming a member. We also encourage creative ideas about how to acknowledge our sponsorship!
  • One of the participating students should write a short report on the event and its benefits, which we will consider for publication in Pharmacology Matters.
  • To ensure fairness, we cannot award the funding to the same institute in consecutive years.
