A double‐blind placebo controlled comparison of the bronchodilator effects of salbutamol inhaled as a dry powder and by conventional pressurized aerosol was carried out in 20 patients with chronic bronchial asthma.

No significant difference in the bronchodilator response between 400 μg and 600 μg of dry powder and 200 μg from the aerosol was detected.

Even with the highest dose of 600 μg dry powder salbutamol no subjective or objective side‐effects were observed and the inhalation of salbutamol in a lactose base was well tolerated by all the patients.
