Mental health issues: a common lab hazard?

While many researchers are fighting the good fight in the lab, it seems we are losing a war with our own health. A recent publication from Nature determined that graduate students are six times more likely to experience periods of depression and anxiety compared to the general population. So what is it about being in research that predisposes us to such health hazards?

There are many ways in which the British Pharmacological Society promotes pharmacology. Some of the more visible routes include the organisation of scientific meetings, as well as education and policy work. Alongside the publication of its three peer-reviewed journals, the Society also supports the IUPHAR/ British Pharmacological Society Guide to PHARMACOLOGY database (GtoPdb), a free online resource for pharmacologists and scientists in related disciplines.
