Your Society: Being here for our members in 2021

I want to wish you all a Happy New Year in my first blog of 2021. This is a year which we hope will give us some much-needed stability, calm and normality as soon as possible. We still have a way to go; the UK went back into lockdown on 4 January, and many other countries around the world still face necessary restrictions to control the virus. The UK has also seen record numbers of COVID-19 deaths in recent days. We know that our NHS and clinical members are under enormous pressure, and we want to support them in any way we can.

We also know that many members will be juggling other responsibilities including childcare, teaching duties, supporting remote learning for their students, or volunteering at vaccination centres. If you would find it helpful to connect with other members to share stories and tips for managing this difficult time, please use our BPS Community. You can either message each other directly, or set up forums for discussions on certain topics. It is a great way to find support.

The Society is working hard to ensure that we can support our members through the next few months. We are here to help, so if there is anything you would find helpful that is not currently provided, we would love to hear from you.

We will be in touch soon with plans for our meetings and training in 2021, and to give you information about how these will take place in our continued remote working environment. Hopefully you have already seen that plans for Pharmacology 2021 are underway with a call for submissions open, our joint meeting with LASA is open for registration and WCP2022 is now only a year away!

The vaccines are a light at the end of the tunnel, but there are many challenges we still need to face. It is important for us to all play our part and continue to follow guidance from the government. The BPS office remains closed and our staff team continue to work from home, while supporting each other and staying connected online.

We hope that everyone remains healthy during this time and thank all of you for playing your part during the ongoing pandemic.
