The British Pharmacological Society (BPS) is a vibrant global community of over 4,000 members across 60 countries, united by a shared commitment to the discovery, development and safe use of medicines. Founded in 1931, the Society has played a central role in advancing drug discovery and therapeutics worldwide, championing innovation through scientific meetings, cutting-edge international journals, and authoritative policy work.

At this pivotal moment in our history, we are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive to lead the Society into its next chapter. The CEO will provide visionary leadership, working with Council and the senior team to shape and deliver an ambitious strategy that grows our influence, diversifies income, and sustains the BPS as one of the world’s leading pharmacological societies.

Accountable to Council and collaborating closely with the President, the CEO will guide a talented staff team, nurture a high-performing and values-driven culture, and champion equity, diversity and inclusion. Externally, they will be a compelling ambassador for pharmacology, building strategic partnerships with government, industry, academia and the wider biosciences community. We are looking to appoint a self-propelled, dynamic Chief Executive, who has a scientific background, ideally related to pharmacology/drug discovery, and a clear track record of innovative leadership, teambuilding and entrepreneurial skillsets that enable a major step change for the BPS.

The BPS is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and warmly welcomes applications from a wide range of backgrounds. We are seeking a leader who is ambitious for the Society and the discipline of pharmacology, and who is ready to inspire and empower our community to transform lives through science.
