The Home Office ran a consultation on the scheduling of tramadol under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001. This followed a Ministerial decision, in principle, to accept the ACMD's (Advisory Council on Misuse of Drugs) recommendation to control tramadol as a Class C and Schedule 3 drug under the 1971 Act and the 2001 Regulations respectively.
BPS recommended that tramadol be placed in Schedule 3 but with exemptions from prescribing requirements.
