The British Pharmacological Society is delighted to launch its PhD Funding Programme for awards in 2027.
The programme includes both the AJ Clark Studentship and the Sir David Jack Scholarship. It provides funding to students who already hold a degree in pharmacology or a related discipline and intend to carry out research in pharmacology and/or therapeutic innovation, which will result in a PhD degree.
The PhD Funding Programme supports up to five students each year, with over £100,000 awarded to each recipient over three years.
Applications for 2027 awards are now open and close 31 October 2026.

Previous recipients include:
- Kirsty Tinto, who completed her PhD at the University of Strathclyde in early 2026. Since then, she has worked as an EPSRC-funded Research Assistant at the University of Strathclyde before becoming a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences.
- Elizabeth Carberry, who received the AJ Clark studentship in 2025 and is currently studying for a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology and Drug Discovery at the University of Nottingham.
- Charlotte Thomas, who is currently studying for a PhD at UCL, researching the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobial combinations. She recently
- James Farmer, who completed his PhD in 2023 and is now a Senior Scientist at Excellerate Bioscience Ltd.
- Chloe Peach, who completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in 2020 and went on to receive the Vogt Prize in 2021 while working at New York University. She has now established her own lab at the University of Nottingham.
- The 2026 PhD Funding Programme cohort, who have just started their PhDs this year.
