History of the journal

The British Journal of Pharmacology was first founded by the British Pharmacological Society in 1946 as the “British Journal of Pharmacology and Chemotherapy”. The journal was initially published with the British Medical Association, but moved to Macmillan Journals Limited in 1968, at which point it was retitled the British Journal of Pharmacology (BJP). The journal adopted its iconic blue colouring in 1968 to complement the green colouring of the newly-founded sister journal, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. In 2009, the BJP moved to its current publisher, Wiley.
