Honorary Fellows recognised in New Year Honours

The UK New Year Honours List 2022 featured many individuals from the pharmaceutical and wider medical communities who have played key roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were delighted to see three of our Honorary Fellows recognised in this list.

Sir Patrick Vallance has been elevated to Knights Commander of the Order of the Bath for services to Science in Government. Sir Patrick emphasised the importance of pharmaceutical research in tackling COVID-19 during his keynote lecture at the Society’s annual meeting in 2020.

Sir Chris Whitty was also honoured with Knights Commander of the Order of Bath for services to Public Health. Sir Chris was elected to Honorary Fellowship of the Society in 2021 for his instrumental role in providing science advice to the Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dame June Raine received a Damehood for services to Healthcare and the COVID-19 Response. Dame June recently gave a talk at the Society’s 90th anniversary celebration in December 2021 on Sir Alasdair Breckenridge’s impact on regulation, patient safety and public health ‘Regulation Follows Science’.

We would like to congratulate all honourees for their richly deserved recognition.
