Non-BPS Meetings Bursary

About the bursary

The Non-BPS Travel Bursary supports members presenting abstracts at meetings not organised by the Society.

The September deadline has been extended exclusively for members applying for support to attend the 6th World Conference on the Pharmacology of Natural Products and Traditional Medicine. You may submit applications for this meeting until 10 September.

There are four deadlines each year:

  • 1 March – for meetings taking place 1 April–30 June
  • 1 June – for meetings taking place 1 July–30 September
  • 1 September – for meetings taking place 1 October–31 December
  • 1 December – for meetings taking place 1 January–31 March

Applicants will be notified of the outcome within four weeks of the deadline.

Funding is limited, so applications will be judged using the scoring criteria.

Terms & Conditions

  • Only available to existing members - priority will be given to those who have been members for at least one year.
  • Affiliate Members are not eligible for travel bursaries.
  • Only applications submitted by the relevant deadline will be considered.
  • The bursary supports those presenting abstracts. Invited talks will only be considered if no support is being offered by the event organiser.
  • Applicants must have already submitted an abstract for the meeting and be intending to present in person and be the sole presenter.
  • Applicants should ensure expected costs are in line with the Expenses Policy.
  • The Society aims to cover recipients' early bird registration, and up to 50% of travel and accommodation costs for Full Members and Fellows, and 75% for Undergraduates and Early Career Members. However, awards will be based on the number of applications, the allocated budget and the Society’s assessment of the most economical mode of travel and a reasonable standard of accommodation.
  • The length of the meeting will determine the maximum number of hotel nights to be reimbursed e.g. a 2 day meeting = 2 nights.
  • Other costs, such as poster printing, visas and subsistence will not be reimbursed.
  • The maximum award per meeting as well as per year for an individual is £750.
  • Awards are non-transferable.

Criteria

We will give preference to applications that clearly demonstrate the benefit to the applicant and to the wider pharmacology community of attending the event, for example, presenting an abstract.

Receiving payment

To receive payment, a bursary claim form must be submitted within four weeks of the closing date of the meeting, along with receipts, the email confirming the bursary, and a certificate of presentation.

The Society will only make payments to a bank account in the applicant’s name, unless otherwise agreed with the Finance Team.
