The Society co-locates with the British Ecological Society
In December 2025, the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) announced that it would be relocating its offices. The Society is now delighted to report that it has completed its move into the offices of the British Ecological Society (BES), joining a collaborative learned society environment that supports connection, partnership and shared learning.
Why we moved
For 31 years, the Society was based at Angel Gate in Islington. Following the estate’s acquisition by a new owner and plans to redevelop the site for residential housing, the Society had the opportunity to sell its lease on favourable terms and secure a more suitable home.
After careful consideration, including advice from property experts, consultation with former Presidents, and guidance from the Charity Commission, the BPS Council concluded that relocation was in the Society’s best long-term interests. The move supports our commitment to sustainable growth and ensures we have a modern, flexible base from which to serve our members and wider community.
Our new home
Located just a 10-minute walk from our old offices at Angel Gate, the new office provides a modern and adaptable working environment with upgraded facilities to support the Society’s activities.
The space includes dedicated work areas for BPS staff, high-quality meeting rooms, and collaborative facilities that will enhance engagement opportunities with members, partners, and stakeholders. It also strengthens our ability to host meetings, training, and events in-house.
Sharing premises with the BES creates opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange, while our location on Wharf Road places us within a wider and growing network of scientific and learned organisations, helping to foster new partnerships and interdisciplinary dialogue.

Visiting the office
If you would like to arrange a visit at any point, please contact a member of staff or submit a request through the contact form on our website so we can ensure a smooth visit with the least disruption to our BES colleagues.
Accessibility
To keep our committees and meetings as accessible as possible, we will continue to offer hybrid options where appropriate. Committee and group members should refer to meeting agendas or contact the relevant staff lead to confirm whether meetings will be held in person, online or in a hybrid format.
The office is easily accessible by public transport, with nearby Underground, rail, bus and cycle connections. As there is no dedicated parking, we recommend travelling by public transport where possible. You can plan in more detail by viewing the travel information on the BES website.
Lifts are available on all floors of the office.
Looking ahead
This move marks an exciting new chapter for the Society and puts our 2026–2030 strategy into action. By co-locating in a modern, collaborative scientific learned society environment, we are strengthening our financial and operational resilience, creating new opportunities to connect, collaborate and share knowledge, and supporting BPS as a progressive, unifying and sustainable Society as we move towards 100 years.
