Her research, which focusses on how monoamines influence mood and behaviour, has involved both human studies and preclinical neuropharmacology. She joined the British Pharmacological Society in 1981 and was a Trustee from 2017 2020. She is a Past President of the British Association for Psychopharmacology and the Laboratory Animal Science Association (LASA) and a former member of Council of the University of London.
