Alexis Bailey is a Reader in Neuropharmacology, currently Head of Pharmacology Section at St. George's University of London. He has a strong educational profile focusing on the delivery of research informed teaching. Dr. Bailey has also developed an international reputation for his research in neuropharmacology especially in the field of opioid pharmacology, drug addiction and electronic cigarettes with over 70 peer reviewed publications. He carried out his PhD focusing on opioid and adenosine systems interactions under the supervision of Prof. Ian Kitchen and Prof. Susanna Hourani. He spent his post-doctoral days at The Laboratory of The Biology of Addictive Diseases at Rockefeller University before embarking on a lectureship position at Surrey University in 2008. In 2016, he joined St. George’s University as a Senior Lecturer. He has been a BPS member since 2008 and has contributed to the society as a BJP editor, symposia organisation and he and his group have delivered multiple presentations at BPS conferences. He is recipient of the Bill Bowman Travelling Lectureship award, the Aptuit prize and the Student Choice Award for Excellence in Pharmacology Teaching from the BPS.
