Professor Csaba Szabo PhD MD

Professor Szabo's expertise include oxidative and nitrosative stress, gaseous transmitters (nitric oxide, hydrogen sulfide), critical illness, cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases and cancer. After his medical training at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, he worked at the William Harvey Research Institute in London, and later at the University of Cincinnati and the UMDNJ in Newark. Since 2010 he is based at the University of Texas. He has been continuously funded by the NIH over the last 20 years. In addition to his academic work, he has also worked in the biotech industry. Three of the companies that he either founded or worked as Chief Scientific Officer are now publicly traded. With 55,000 citations and a H-index of 120, he among the top 10 most cited pharmacologists in the world. He is the recipient of the Novartis Award of the BPS, the Texas Star Award and the Pharmacia-ASPET Award for Experimental Therapeutics.
