Genomics: Shaping the Future of Healthcare

The UK’s Ten-Year Health Plan and Life Sciences Plan send a clear message: genomics will be central to the future of healthcare.

From genomic therapies to digital health and AI, innovation is transforming patient care. In January, Innovate UK, in partnership with MHRA, the Office for Life Sciences, and the MRC, invested £6.2 million across seven Centres of Excellence for Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSIs) to accelerate these advancements.

One example from the Ten-Year Health Plan is the My Medicines tool, empowering patients to manage prescriptions and access vital information—including pharmacogenomics (PGx).

At the heart of this movement is the CERSI in Pharmacogenomics (CERSI-PGx), led by Sir Munir Pirmohamed. Its mission? To enable PGx innovation and deliver medicines tailored to your genome by uniting stakeholders and equipping them through education.

We at BPS are proud to collaborate with CERSI-PGx to develop an educational Course Package focused on upskilling stakeholders—starting with regulators. As part of this, we’re launching an interactive eLearning course with six modules on the BPSA Platform, designed to empower all stakeholders in this new era of personalised medicine.
