Who is Fellowship suitable for?
Fellowship is a category of membership suited for those who have obtained relevant distinction within the field of pharmacology or other related disciplines as a result of their previous/ongoing research and meaningful contributions to the field. If you do not meet the Fellowship criteria outlined below, the full membership tier may be a more suitable option.
Criteria
- Voting member of the Society for at least five years and supported by two existing Fellows.
And at least one of the following:
- Contribution to pharmacology – demonstrated by career progression and publication record in suitable journals
- Contribution to pharmacology through education and/or outreach
- For those in industry or outside mainstream research through advancement of pharmacology in a scientific leadership capacity
- Contribution to the public understanding or appreciation of pharmacology
- Substantial contribution to the Society, demonstrated by committee or editorial board work or attendance at and contribution to Society meetings
*Cost
£175 each year (or £155 by Direct Debit) - effective from the first renewal following election to Fellowship.
This works out at less than £12.92 per month if renewal takes place at the beginning of January.
Applicants from low-income, lower-middle-income, and higher-middle-income economies (as defined by the World Bank) will be eligible for a membership discount. This will be automatically applied to your initial application and any subsequent renewals.
UK taxpayers can claim income tax relief on BPS Fellowship. Fellowship fees are 100% tax-deductible.

I am very proud to have been nominated as a Fellow of the BPS in 2024. It’s a great honour and one which I would consider my greatest achievement to date.
